Abstract

The triad composed of healthy nutrition, physical activity, and good bowel habits must be present at school as an educational tool to encourage and promote better quality of life among children and adolescents which in turn will be a key element throughout adult life. The relationship between gut microbiota and mental health are widely reported. Proper bowel habits are acquired during early childhood and prevent constipation and irritable bowel syndrome, conditions that are related to diverse mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety. The objective of this essay is to vindicate the importance of educating children and adolescents on good intestinal health habits as a preventive mental health action; for this, school is an educational space required for it.
